Lexus' new holographic dashboard is a sight to behold

The radical interior of the Lexus UX Concept reveals floating hologram-style displays.

THIS WEEK’S PARIS Motor Show will see Lexus unveil a new SUV-based design concept called the UX.

In what is now typical style for Lexus this incorporates some angular and sharp design, but it is inside that things get truly futuristic.

Rather than relying on a conventional dashboard layout the Lexus UX Concept uses the latest holographic technology to relay information to the driver.

This three-dimensional HMI (human-machine interface) includes a transparent globe that appears as if it is floating in the centre of the instrument binnacle.

Even cooler is the centre console, which houses a multifaceted crystal-like structure with holograms inside. These display information for the air conditioning and infotainment in a very impressive way.

Beyond the holographic displays, the Lexus UX Concept features technology such as electrochromatic glass that can be tinted instantly.

In keeping with the futuristic approach, its designers have done away with traditional door mirrors in favour of ‘e-mirror cameras’. These reduce aerodynamic drag and display the view on two screens at either side of the dashboard.

Stephan Rasmussen of the UX Concept said: “Our brief was to create a new genre of compact crossover; a vehicle that could create something unique from a customer’s point of view – an innovative, three-dimensional, fully immersive user experience.”
