POLICE IN BIRMINGHAM have arrested two men, one of whom they say had 38 mobile phones shoved down his trousers at a gig by the Libertines.
West Midlands Police said the men were found with the bottom of their trousers taped shut during the concert at the Barclaycard Arena last night.
One of them, aged 30, was spotted acting suspiciously, and later found to have secreted the phones down his trousers.
Police say they were particularly vigilant at last night’s gig, after reports that thieves had targeted fans of the band at a recent concert in Manchester.
In a statement today, Inspector Gareth Morris said:
It’s an unfortunately reality that large crowds at concerts such as this make rich pickings for career criminals.
We’re hot on the heels of these offenders but you can also reduce your chances of falling victim to such crimes by remaining extra vigilant when attending busy events.
Morris asked anyone who may have had their phone stolen to contact West Midlands Police.
