Two arrested in Limerick after taxi hijacking

A taxi driver was threatened by two men with a knife on Saturday night.

GARDAÍ IN LIMERICK have arrested two men in relation to an incident that occurred on Saturday night involving a taxi.

A taxi driver picked up two men at approximately 10.20pm on St Nessans Road and drove to Russell Court. The men then requested to be taken to Sixmilebirdge then on towards Cratloe Woods where one of the men produced a knife.

He threatened the driver and demanded to be taken to Limerick City.

On arrival at the Dooradoyle area, the driver was instructed to exit the vehicle and the men drove off in the direction of Garyown Rugby Club.

A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the driver was not physically injured in the incident.

Yesterday the two men, both in their late teens, were arrested and are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Roxboro Garda Station.

The vehicle has also been recovered.
