DERRY GIRLS WRITER and creator Lisa McGee is returning with a brand-new Netflix series, which will premiere February 2026.
McGee shot to fame after the success of Derry Girls which originally aired on Channel 4 and was later picked up by Netflix, bringing it to a whole new audience.
How to get to Heaven from Belfast also created and written by McGee is led by Irish stars Roísín Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan and Caoilfhionn Dunne. McGee is also an executive producer on the new series.
The series will consist of eight hour-long episodes, with Derry Girls director Michael Lennox working with McGee again.
They play a group of friends about to “embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives” after they receive news that the estranged fourth member of the group has died.
Today, Netflix has announced a supporting cast including Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Gangs of London) and Derry Girls own Father Peter Art Campion.
Other supporting cast members announced today include Say Nothing’s Josh Finan, Brassic’s Bronagh Gallagher, Heartstopper’s Darragh Hand and Peaky Blinder’s Natasha O’Keefe.
Speaking about her new project McGee said: “We got the gang back together.”
“This is the show I’ve always wanted to make; a mash‑up of my two favourite genres, mystery and comedy”, she added.
She also praised Netflix saying they have been “so incredibly supportive of our mad vision”.
When Derry Girls first aired on Channel 4 it became the most watched series in Northern Ireland since modern records began in 2002.
