‘I’m ten steps ahead of you’: Marvel’s unmissable new series Loki is out now on Disney+

The series is the next story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

IF YOU’VE BINGED your way through WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki is the next new series to get your teeth stuck into.

Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which a variant of Loki created a new timeline, the series sees the God of Mischief step out of his brother Thor’s shadow.

Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki, who is brought to the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and is faced with a decision to help fix the timeline or be erased from existence.

Hiddleston is joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E Grant for the series, while Michael Waldron serves as the head writer and Kate Herron directs.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Waldron said he “wanted to explore slightly more complex character questions.”

“It’s not just good versus bad. Is anybody all good? Is anybody all bad? What makes a hero, a hero? A villain, a villain?”

After the character’s appearance in six Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Marvel president Kevin Feige told EW that it was important to finally focus on Loki.

“He’s been around for thousands of years. He had all sorts of adventures,” he says. “Wanting to fill in the blanks and see much more of Loki’s story [was] the initial desire [for the series].”

As for reprising the role of Loki, Hiddleston says he feels a “sense of responsibility”.

“Rather than ownership, it’s a sense of responsibility I feel to give my best every time and do the best I can because I feel so grateful to be a part of what Marvel Studios has created. I just want to make sure I’ve honoured that responsibility with the best that I can give and the most care and thought and energy.”

Although the first episode of the series just landed on Disney+ today, fans are already speculating whether there’ll be another season – and Hiddleston hasn’t ruled it out.

“At this point, I have learned that for me to have any expectations is futile and a fool’s errand,” he told Total Film magazine (via Games Radar). “Having said goodbye to the character once, twice, three times, I do not know what the future holds. But I’m excited to find out.”
