27-year-old man killed in Longford car crash

A 22-year -old man who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 27-YEAR-old man has been killed in a car crash in Longford overnight.

The crash occurred at Legan Village at 11.10pm last night. The driver was fatally injured when his car struck a pole.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mullingar Hospital. The other occupant of the car, a 22-year-old man who was the front passenger, was taken to Tullamore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The scene of the collision is currently closed to traffic in order to facilitate a forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are this morning appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them. They are also asking that people to get in touch of they saw the car involved,  a 99 SO registered black Toyota Avensis, travelling in the area before the collision.
