Luas Red Line between Connolly and The Point to reopen following major fire in August

The section of the Luas has remained closed since a large fire broke out at George’s Dock in late August.

LUAS RED LINE services between Connolly and The Point are scheduled to reopen at the end of the month.

The section of the Luas has been closed for over three months since a large gas fire broke out at George’s Dock on 19 August.

Luas operator Transdev said at the time that the fire caused “significant damage” to George’s Bridge, which carries the Luas Red Line and estimated that services would not resume for several weeks.

Speaking to The Journal today, a spokesperson for Luas confirmed the service is “scheduled to open at the end of November”.

Luas is preparing for the opening and some test trams will start running between Connolly and The Point from next Monday.

The opening is not definite as it will depend on the results of the planned tests.

The planned tests over the weekend and early next week will determine whether the line can officially open, and other parties are also completing their final works which will determine the opening too.

A replacement bus service has been operating to serve the affected Luas stops since Monday 1 September.

Buses run every ten minutes during normal Luas operating hours. Valid Luas tickets or TFI Leap Cards are required for entry.
