TWO MEN HAVE died following separate road incidents in Laois and Monaghan.
A man in his 70s died after he was struck by a car on Main Street in Abbeyleix at around 7pm yesterday evening.
The man, who was on foot, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
The road was closed for forensic tests, gardaí said, but has since reopened.
Separately, a man in his 30s has died following a single-vehicle collision involving a car at Inishammon, Smithboro, Co Monaghan yesterday evening.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His body has been transferred to the Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The coroner has been notified, and the road remains closed for forensic testing.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
