Man (26) appears in court charged over sexual assault of young girl near Citywest hotel

The man is accused of assaulting the young girl at the roadway that leads alongside the front of the Citywest complex in the early hours of Monday.

A MAN HAS appeared in court charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in west Dublin.

The accused (26), who cannot be named due to the nature of the charge, appeared briefly before Judge John Brennan at Blanchardstown District Court shortly after 10.30am this morning.

Detective Sergeant Sinead Connolly told the court that the man was arrested at 3.58am at Clondalkin Garda Station.

She told the court that he was charged by Sergeant Neil O’Brien.

His reply after caution was “I have nothing to say”.

The man is accused of assaulting the young girl at Garter Lane, the roadway that leads alongside the front of the Citywest complex, in the early hours of Monday morning.

He’s been charged with sexual assault contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001.

There was no application for bail made this morning.

The man was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court tomorrow morning, where an application will be made.

The accused was granted free legal aid.

The court was also asked to assign an Arabic interpreter, which was granted by the judge.
