Man charged in connection with alleged assaults on two people canvassing with Mary Lou McDonald

The suspect is expected to appear in court in Dublin tomorrow morning.

A MAN ARRESTED in connection with an alleged assault on two females while Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald was canvassing in Dublin has been charged. 

The alleged assault took place on North Strand Road, Dublin 1 on Friday while McDonald was out encouraging people to vote for Catherine Connolly in the presidential election.

The suspect is expected to appear in court in Dublin tomorrow morning. 

A video circulated online showing canvassers standing between McDonald and a man who was verbally abusing her and other members of the group. He also threatened to hit McDonald and others.

A woman was subsequently brought to hospital for medical examination.
