Garda Sean Lane of Waterford Garda Station told Waterford District Court this evening that the accused was charged just after midnight this morning in relation to the case.

After a formal cautioning, reply Garda Lane added that the accused said in reply: “I have nothing to say.”

Solicitor Ken Cunningham, appearing for the accused, requested that Marvenek receive a psychiatric evaluation in custody.

He also sought the assistance of a Czech interpreter for his client.

Due to the seriousness of the charge Cunningham said bail would not be an option.

Judge Kevin Staunton said he would certify for an interpreter and remanded him in custody until a court appearance next Tuesday, 5 May.
