Man holds his mother hostage for 28 hours

West Midlands Police say that the situation was ‘peacefully resolved’ this morning.

WEST MIDLANDS POLICE in England have arrested one man following a 28-hour stand-off in which he held his elderly mother hostage.

Police issued a statement earlier today saying that the man, 40, had come out of the house on Perry Hill Road in Oldbury, Sandwell shortly after 11am of his own accord. He is being held on suspicion of false imprisonment.

The woman, 79, is undergoing medical assessment but is not believed to have suffered any significant injuries during the ordeal.

Assistant Chief Constable Sharon Rowe said that the incident had “reached a peaceful resolution”. The officer described it as ”a complex situation” which involved “various specialist officers as well as medical professionals”.

“Our primary concern has always been to bring this matter to a safe conclusion and to protect the lives of those involved,” she added. ”We cannot comment further on the motivation for this situation, however we can confirm that the matter is domestic related and those involved are mother and son.”

Police thanked the local community for cooperation and patience with the situation over the weekend and said that the incident was now moving “into the investigation phase”.
