A YOUNG GIRL has died following a road traffic incident in Waterford.
The toddler passed away at University Hospital in the city this morning.
It is understood the two-year-old girl was hit by a lorry as she crossed the road with her mother at about 10.10am.
The girl’s mother also sustained minor injuries in the collision.
The road has been closed for forensic exams and diversions are in place. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact the local station.
She is the 173rd person to die on Irish roads this year, a larger number of fatalities than was recorded at this time last year.
Of those who have lost their lives in 2014, 33 have been pedestrians.
