Brothers still missing from Roscommon prison

The two brothers, Vasilea and Toader Feier, left a note in their cell at Castlerea Prison.

TWO ROMANIAN BROTHERS are still missing after escaping from a prison in Roscommon.

The brothers, Vasile (29) and Toader (23) Feier have Dublin addresses and were being held in Castlerea Prison while serving sentences for a number of crimes.

The Romanian nationals were both serving sentences of over one year – one was serving a 1 year and 10 months sentence, while the other was serving a 1 year and 11 months sentence.

They were sentenced in court for a number of crimes and their sentences are running consecutively.

Their crimes include criminal damage, theft, and possession of certain articles – a screwdriver, iron bar, and cordless drill – which helped them to rob parking meters in Galway city.

They were put in custody in October 2011 and both were due for release on different dates in April next year.

“One of them had a notice issued from the Department of Justice of an intent to remove him from the State,” a spokesperson from the Prison Service told TheJournal.ie.

It is not known if there were plans to issue such an order to the other brother.

The spokesperson confirmed that reports that the brothers left a note after them in their cell are correct.

The note is reported to have read: “Sorry, we had no choice.”

The gardaí have been searching for the men since they were notified of their disappearance yesterday morning.

The prison service is carrying out an investigation into the brothers’ disappearance.
