TODAY IS THE hottest day of the year so far, according to Met Éireann. 

The highest temperature in the country recorded so far today was a reading of 24 degrees at Phoenix Park this afternoon.

The forecaster said it’s possible we could see highs of 27 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

The weather will generally be warm or very warm with plenty of sunshine over the next few days, but temperatures will decrease later in the week and into the Bank holiday weekend, with showers and rain possible.

Tonight will be dry and clear, although some cloud is possible in the northwest. Patches of mist and fog will form overnight, and sea fog will affect some coasts. The night will remain mild with lowest temperatures of 7 to 13 degrees expected.

Mist and fog patches will clear on Monday morning, although some cloud and sea fog is possible in the northwest at times, but otherwise it will be dry with long spells of sunshine.

The day will have “warm or very warm” weather with temperatures reaching 22 to 27 degrees, highest in Munster and Leinster.

Monday night will see cloud and patches of drizzle in the north and west but dry with long clear spells elsewhere. Mist and fog will form overnight with lows of 10 to 15 degrees.

Mist and fog will clear during Tuesday morning with plenty of warm or very warm sunshine overall and highest temperatures of 20 to 27 degrees, warmest in Munster.

It will be dry overall, but some cloud will affect the northern half of the country at times. 

Tuesday night will be dry with long clear spells; however, patches of mist and fog will develop in the south. Lowest temperatures ranging between 7 degrees in the north and 15 degrees in the southwest are expected.

A few showers may develop in the southwest on Wednesday, but otherwise it will be a dry and warm day with plenty of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees are expected, with the warmest weather expected in Munster.

Most areas will stay dry and clear on Wednesday night, but showers are possible in southern areas. The national forecaster said it will be “very mild overnight” with temperatures not falling below 12 to 16 degrees.

There is a possibility of some showers on Thursday, but these will be mixed with warm sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees are expected.
