New Zealand struck by 7.0-magnitude earthquake
Quake struck off the southern coast of the North Island.
A 7.0-MAGNITUDE earthquake has been felt across both islands of New Zealand.
The country’s geological hazard monitoring system recorded the quake at a depth of 230km some 60km south of Opunake, a town which sits on the south coast of the North Island.
The effects of the tremor were particularly felt across the North Island and the north-eastern part of the South Island, however the New Zealand Herald tweeted that there have been no reports of significant damage and no tsunami warning has been issued.
The quake struck shortly after 10.30pm local time (11.30am Irish time).
