One-third more cars licensed in December 2010

Overall, over 50% more private cars were licensed in 2010 than the year before.

BY THE END OF 2010, 84,907 private cars were licensed in Ireland, representing an increase of over 50% on 2009 licensing.

The number of imported used cars which were licensed dropped 20.9%, from 49,464 cars in 2009 to 39,103 last year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office also show a 36.5% increase in private cars registered for the first time last month compared with December 2009.

However, the number of new goods vehicles licensed in 2010 was up just 4.6%, or by 459 vehicles.

Overall, 160,418 vehicles were licensed last year, up 7.4% from 149,389 in 2009.
