Open thread: What are your favourite Irish Olympic memories?

Michael Carruth in Barcelona? Sonia in Sydney? What’s your favourite memories of Irish Olympians in action?

IRELAND IS ON THE Olympics medal board following this week’s successes at London 2012.

Cian O’Connor bagged bronze in the individual jumping equestrian event, while boxers Paddy Barnes, John Joe Nevin and Michael Conlan are guaranteed at least a bronze medal each after their boxing performances.

As Bray boxer Katie Taylor prepares to square up to Russia’s Sofya Ochigava in her first Olympic final this afternoon, we’re asking you to share your favourite Olympic memories of Irish competitors. Was it Michael Carruth and Wayne McCullough in Barcelona, or John Treacy in the marathon back in 84? Or what about Sonia in Sydney?
