Open thread: What Irish food or drink do you most miss when abroad?

If you are living abroad, do you salivate at the thought of a packet of Irish crisps; or does your Dad post you over boxes of teabags? Let us know what food or drinks you miss most this St Patrick’s Day.

WHETHER YOU ARE abroad for a short break or a longer period of time, there is bound to be something you miss from back home.

Maybe it’s your favourite packet of crisps, brand of tea or biscuits, or maybe you miss a Sunday morning fry-up.

Before the advent of internet shopping, people had to depend on generous relatives to post over bars of chocolate and teabags, but thankfully these days there are a number of ways you can get these goodies delivered to you.

In Australia, there’s TasteIreland, while in New York there is FoodIreland, for example.

One new Irish-based company is Green Cross Parcel, which enables people to buy parcels featuring products such as Tayto crisps, Lyons or Barry’s Tea, Snack and Club bars, and more. The difference between this and other sites? It is a non-profit organisation, so the profit made on these parcels (which cost on average €24 each) goes back to Irish charities.

So far, the charities are Age Action Ireland, the Simon Community, Headstrong and Crumlin’s Children Hospital, and more will be added in the future. The company is aimed at Irish expats and other Irish people living abroad, as well as their friends and families at home, who can send and receive parcels of goodies.

As today is St Patrick’s Day, we want to know: What Irish food or drink do you miss most when you’re abroad?

I translate this as “We can’t prove the officer did anything wrong so we will assassinate his character instead.”

Everyone, even the police, are entitled to due process. If the person is not legally. This officer was cleared of doing anyhting illegal yet this does not seem to matter to the Ombudsman.

The fella stole a car and refused to stop ignoring the officers instruction. I am no fan of the police but what should they do just let people steal what they want and let em away with it,, tome people started taking responsibility for their actions. as for the last comment, some people are just hatred regardless

Robert your not suggesting the police should act as judge, jury and executioner are you? Do you think it`s ok to shoot someone dead because they steal a car?

The courts were not fair when dealing with police officers, That is why the ombudsman`s office was asked to re-investigate these cases.

@ other Robert. He used disproportionate force. The threat was not equal to the reaction. The police didn’t even give a warning shot. The man was sitting in a roadblock so therefore was not likely to be able to mow down the cop… Don’t get me wrong I’m defending car thieves but you can’t just shoot someone with out going through the proper routes of threat escalation.
