A MAN HAS died today after being struck by a truck on a motorway close to Mitchelstown in county Cork.
The man, whose identity or age is not yet known, was fatally injured when he was hit by the vehicle at about 11.15am on the M8. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred on the southbound lane of the motorway which is now closed for forensic examinations. Gardaí expect the road to remain closed for the remainder of the afternoon.
So far this year, 14 pedestrians have been killed on Irish roads.
