Female pedestrians killed in Cork and Waterford

Gardaí seek witnesses to separate incidents in which two women were struck by vehicles and killed this evening.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING SEPARATE incidents in which two female pedestrians were killed today.

A 38-year-old woman died in Cork after being struck by a truck at around 4.30pm today. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the incident to contact them at Bantry Garda Station on 027 20860.

The woman was struck by the vehicle at Slip, Bantry, near the local creamery and the Co-Action Centre, according to local gardaí.

In Waterford, a 71-year-old woman died after being struck by a car at around 6pm on The Quay. She was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination and the road is closed. Gardaí in Waterford are appealing for witnesses to this fatal collision to contact them on 051 305300.
