How much do you think should be spent on an engagement ring?

Jewellers across Ireland have weighed in on the ring and the average prices they go for.

THERE’S A SPLIT in thinking on the cost of engagement rings: to some it’s a make or break, to others it’s meaningless.

Pop star Taylor Swift has reignited chatter regarding how much an engagement ring should cost after she was proposed to by American football player Travis Kelce with a ring valued at around $500,000.

Jewellers across Ireland have weighed in on the ring and the average prices they go for; Appleby’s on Dublin’s Grafton Street said they could, in the same day, sell rings costing €2,500 and €250,000.

Of course, it’s all proportionate to your earnings – Kelce’s average annual income is estimated to be around $17m, so Swift’s ring cost just shy of a third of his monthly income.

So today we’re asking you: How much do you think should be spent on an engagement ring?
