Poll: Is it time that the Queen visited Ireland?

The British monarch is coming to Ireland, possibly as early as May of this year. Are you bothered?

SINN FÉIN president Gerry Adams has criticised the confirmation that Queen Elizabeth is to visit the Republic of Ireland this year, the first time since the partition of Ireland that a reigning British monarch has visited the south.

Adams said the visit was “premature” given that partition was still in force in Ireland, and that many in Ireland would be offended by the Queen’s presence.

How do you feel about it? Is Ireland now a mature enough place to have our neighbours visit in peace – even when they are our former colonial masters? Or do you think the Queen should steer clear while Ireland remains divided?

Are you in favour of the Queen’s visit to Ireland?

Poll Results:

Absolutely - it's long overdue, and will be peaceful (1023)
She has no place in Ireland and shouldn't set foot here (739)
I think it's right, but I worry about the reaction (638)
She should be able to visit, but shouldn't yet (254)
