THREE PEOPLE HAVE been arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of a man in north Cork yesterday.

Barry Daly, who was aged in his 40s, was found dead in Rockview Terrace in Doneraile, Mallow in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is believed that Mr Daly was on his way home from a night out when he was assaulted outside his home.

Gardaí this morning arrested two people, a man aged in his 20s and a male juvenile in his late teens.

Gardaí later made a third arrest of a male teenager.

All three are currently detained at garda stations in Cork County under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination has been carried out at Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí say the results are not being released for “operational reasons”.

Mr Daly was employed at An Post. An Post said its CEO and all its staff, particularly the team at Mallow Delivery Unit, “are deeply shocked and saddened at the untimely death of our colleague.”

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Mallow Garda Station.

A family liaison officer has also been assigned to provide support to Mr Daly’s family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

They are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Doneraile village, Mallow, Co Cork from 12am to 2am on Sunday, 12 October.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31 450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

A garda spokesperson said investigations into the matter are ongoing.

An Post has issued a statement in which it offered its “deepest sympathy” to the loved ones of Mr Daly.

“The CEO and all An Post staff, particularly the team at Mallow Delivery Unit, are deeply shocked and saddened at the untimely death of our colleague, Barry Daly.

We offer our deepest sympathy to Barry’s family. May he rest in peace.”

Friends also paid tribute to Mr Daly on social media this morning saying that he “will be sadly missed.”
