20 new trainee priests start studies at Maynooth

There are now 90 seminarians in total studying at the college.

SAINT PATRICK’S COLLEGE in Maynooth has welcomed 20 new seminarians, who will start priesthood studies at the National Seminary from today.

This brings the total number of trainee priests at the college to 90, with 70 living in the resident halls.

Welcoming the new candidates yesterday, President of the college, Monsignor Hugh Connelly, quoted Pope Francis in his recent trip to Rio de Janeiro, telling seminarians to have the courage to “go against the tide of the culture of pragmatism and efficiency”.

The college, which comprises the seminary and the Pontifical University offers degrees in theology, philosophy and theology and arts.
