Haroon Ahmed Staffordshire Police
Prison Break

This violent robber escaped prison - by walking out the front door

Unsophisticated, but successful.

AS ESCAPE PLANS go, it is remarkably unsophisticated, but Haroon Ahmed is on the run after strolling out the front door of an English prison.

Derby-born Haroon escaped from HMP Dovegate in Staffordshire, at around 4.15pm on Wednesday, where he is serving a sentence for robbery.

It has been reported that he walked out among a group of people who had come to visit him.

He is described as Asian, 6ft tall with a thin build and short black hair in a crew cut. He was wearing jeans and a grey t-shirt but police say it’s likely he has changed his clothing.

Officers involved in the search for him arrested his brother, Majeed Ahmed and have charged him with assisting a prisoner in escaping from prison.

A black Volkswagen Golf was also recovered as part of the investigation and has been subject to a detailed forensic examination.

The public are being urged not to approach Ahmed if they see him, due to the violent nature of his conviction.
