THIS WEEK’S BUDGET announcement was met with plenty of criticism from opposition parties, and many of those taking aim at the government’s VAT cut for the hospitality sector focused on the benefits it will give to fast food chains like McDonald’s.
In levelling his criticism of the VAT cut, Labour’s Ged Nash resurrected a McDonald’s mascot from the burger chain’s cannon – The Hamburglar.
Nash said the budget was a boon for “burger barons and big builders”.
“The Hamburglar from the 1980s McDonald’s ad is back in town swiping hundreds of millions in his swag bag from PAYE workers,” he said.
