POLICE IN OHIO say a murdered woman’s corpse was mistaken for a horrifying Halloween decoration by passersby earlier this week.

Locals in the town of Chillicothe dismissed the grisly sight of a woman’s body hanging from a fence as a prank on Tuesday morning.

However, authorities have since identified her as 31-year-old Rebecca Cade, and said she appears to have died from blunt force trauma.

One neighbour, Tammy Dixon, saw Cade suspended from the fence by her sleeve, and told local TV station WKRC:

I just put my hands over my face and said, ‘This can’t be happening here, it’s not real, and I just didn’t see what I thought I saw.’

On Wednesday, police announced they had arrested 27-year-old Donnie Cochenour on suspicion of the local woman’s murder.

The area has been hit by a spate of recent disappearances among women, though in a statement, Chillicothe police stipulated that Cade’s death does “not appear to be linked to any other current investigation being conducted locally.”
