Roads hazardous due to black ice and snow

Motorists advised to avoid all unnecessary journeys due to continued icy road conditions.

PEDESTRIANS AND ROAD USERS are advised to take care again today as the cold weather continues.

Fresh snowfall in parts of the country means some areas have more compacted ice and snow on the roads, and black ice persists in parts.

AA Roadwatch says that driving conditions around the country are hazardous, and warns that black ice continues to affect roads. A full list of affected routes is available throughout the day online.

Drivers are warned to take care even on routes that have been gritted.

A list of schools which are closed this morning has been posted to schooldays.ie.

Met Éireann says highest temperatures today will be between -1 and +3, with freezing fog and frost slow to clear. Further rain, sleet and snow are forecast for parts of Leinster and east Munster.

Travel updates

Dublin Airport is open again this morning and fully operational. Cork, Shannon and Knock airports are all fully operational, but some passengers may experience delays due to bad weather in the UK.

A number of Bus Éireann routes have been curtailed today; a full list can be found here. Dublin Bus is also operating a curtailed service across the city today, with updates being posted on its website. The Luas is running a full service, except for the Connolly stop, which remains closed.

Irish Rail is operating a full service on Intercity, DART and Commuter routes.
