Roscommon men died from smoke inhalation

Gardaí are still awaiting results from toxicology reports.

POST MORTEM EXAMINATIONS carried out on the bodies of three men found dead in a Roscommon house on Friday have revealed the victims died from smoke inhalation.

Local newspaper, the Roscommon Herald, has named the three men as 26-year-old John Kerr, his mother’s partner Michael Beirne (48) and their friend Ian Finn (49), who was originally from London.

All three men had moved to Roscommon Town in recent years. They had been staying in the house at St Ciarán’s Park, a premises described as a “transient sort of a place” by local Gardaí. It is a vacant property located beside a boarded-up building.

Gardaí say they are now awaiting the results of the toxicology reports before a file is forwarded to the coroner.

RTÉ has reported that there was slight evidence of fire damage in the house. The men’s bodies were found in the front room after emergency services were contacted at about 7.30am on Friday.
