RTÉ corrects reports that it spent €360,000 on taxi fares

The public broadcaster actually only spent €269,298 on taxis last year, it says…

PUBLIC BROADCASTER RTÉ has released a statement correcting reports that it spent €360,700 on taxis in 2012.

The figures were published this morning by the Irish Independent who obtained them under the Freedom of Information Act. The Independent reported that RTÉ was spending €1000 a day on tax fares.

This afternoon RTÉ said that the figures supplied by RTÉ under the request were incorrect and that the actual amount spent in 2012 was €269,298.

It said that the articles published today were in good faith and apologised for the inaccuracy.

“The sum of €269,298 represents a reduction of 12 per cent on taxi expenditure on the previous year, in line with RTÉ’s continued commitment to cost reductions across the organisation,” the broadcaster said.
