A SEVEN-MONTH-OLD baby has been shot dead in Brooklyn, New York.
US Media are reporting that the incident occurred at about 1.21pm NY time yesterday.
The child was seated in her push chair when the incident happened in broad daylight.
It’s believed that the child was an unintended target and that the shooting was gang related, as reports are calling it “a stray bullet”.
The NYPD currently has one person of interest in custody in relation to the incident, but is still searching for another individual who it says was driving a moped.
Two individuals who police believe carried out the shooting fled northbound on a moped after the incident occurred.
An active manhunt is underway for the second suspect.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has taken to social media to share his condolences, as he said “A 7-month-old baby was shot and killed today in Brooklyn — an unthinkable loss”.
“I’m grateful for the hospital staff who did everything they could and the NYPD for their ongoing work to find those responsible for this heinous murder”.
He concluded his post by saying “We cannot accept this violence as normal. Too many families have suffered this pain”.
