Post-mortem due on man killed in Sligo burglary

Gardai have appealed for anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area between Wednesday and Friday night to contact them.

A POST-MORTEM is due to be carried out today on the body of a man in his 60s who died following an aggravated burglary at a house on Old Market Street in Sligo town.

The man was seriously assaulted in the course of the incident and was brought to Sligo General Hospital where he died last night.

The Garda Technical Bureau continues to examine the scene of the burglary which could have taken place any time between 9pm on Wednesday and 9pm on Friday.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious around the Old Market Street area between Wednesday evening and Friday night to contact them on 071 915 7000 or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.
