Strangers who met online die in 'gas suicide pact'

One of the deceased is reported to have posted a message online asking for details of how to make a lethal gas.

TWO PEOPLE WHO were found dead in a car filled with toxic chemicals are believed to have died in an apparent suicide pact after they met online.

Jenny Spain, 23, and Mark Searle, 37, were found dead in the back of a car on a remote country lane in Buckinghamshire in the UK last week with indications being that they had met online, reports The Times (subscription).

The pair were discovered slumped in the back seats of Spain’s Ford Ka with a handwritten note on the window indicating that the car contained hazardous materials.

Thames Valley Police who arrived on the scene sealed off the area and evacuated residents as a precaution. They later said they were treating the deaths as “unexplained but not suspicious.”

The Sun newspaper reports that Spain had posted a message online just weeks beforehand to ask people how she might be able to make a lethal gas to kill herself.

The paper reports that Searle, originally from East Sussex, was married and previously worked for the RAF before becoming a nurse in a hospital in north west London.

The Daily Mail reports that Spain was a maths teacher at a community school in North London where she had worked for a year. She had been living with her parents and two sisters in south east London.
