TADHG FURLONG HAS avoided a suspension following his appearance before a URC disciplinary committee for allegedly grabbing an opponent in the groin area.
It means the Ireland international will be available for the upcoming Nations Championship clashes with Argentina, Fiji and South Africa, as well as a play-off game at the end of November.
The Leinster prop had been cited under Law 9.27, which states that “a player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship including but not limited to grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals.”
Munster’s Gavin Coombes alleged that Furlong grabbed him in the groin area during the provinces’ URC clash last Saturday.
Thursday’s hearing took place via video conference, with Simon Thomas of Wales, Attie Heyns of South Africa and Scotland’s Pamela Woodman forming the panel.
A URC statement read: “Having reviewed all of the evidence and considered the submissions in this case, the Independent Disciplinary Committee unanimously
“Notwithstanding the dismissal of the complaint, the Independent Disciplinary Committee found that Munster No 8, Mr Gavin Coombes, had given an honest account of his recollection of events surrounding the incident, and that the Citing Complaint was properly brought before the Independent Disciplinary Committee for determination.
“A full written summary explaining the Independent Disciplinary Committee’s decision will follow as soon as reasonably practicable.
“The Player is free to play upon his next match-day selection.”
Furlong is currently with Andy Farrell’s Ireland squad as they prepare for those upcoming Nations Championship fixtures.
