GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

EVERY WEEKDAY evening, TheJournal.ie brings you the five things you really should know at 5pm.

1. #JOBS: There is some good news on the jobs front today as Google announced the creation of a new €75 million data centre in West Dublin which will add another 30 full-time jobs to its force. The project will also create 200 jobs during the construction phase. Meanwhile, IT company JRI America is creating 100 new jobs at its Tralee operation.

2. #ABORTION: Ireland’s abortion laws will come under the spotlight at the UN next week, when the state’s human rights record is examined by other UN members under the universal periodic review process. At least three members have lodged questions regarding Ireland’s abortion laws.

3. #ARRESTS: Gardaí are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a Limerick city centre apartment today as suspicious. The scene has been sealed off and the State Pathologist has been notified.

4. #FINGLETON: Expenses built up by former Irish Nationwide chief executive Michael Fingleton during his tenure coupled with a €1 million bonus and €11,500 retirement gift “will infuriate members of the public”, says Meath TD Dominic Hannigan. The Labour TD says the expenses claimed include €12,000 for dental work and a €48,000 bill for the K Club.

5. #SURVIVOR: The family of a man whose car came off the road and plunged 200 feet down a ravine in a Californian forest park has found him alive after he survived for several days on leaves and stream water. David Lavau suffered a number of fractures in the accident, though his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Authorities are now trying to established the identity of a corpse discovered in a second car near where Lavau’s vehicle crashed.
