Do you think teachers should receive gifts at the end of the school year?

It’s an ‘age-old dilemma’, according to our parenting columnist Niamh O’Reilly.

AS THE END of the primary school year draws closer, so does the annual debate over whether students should give their teachers an end-of-year gift.

In her latest Voices piece, our parenting columnist Niamh O’Reilly looks at the gifting dilemmas that often arise at this time of year.

From deciding what to buy and who to buy for, to setting a personal budget or organising a group present with other parents, O’Reilly says that “it’s become the expected norm to give your children’s teachers some token of thanks”.

Of course, not everyone agrees that these gifts are necessary and many teachers won’t expect to receive anything at all.

With that in mind, today we’re asking: Do you think teachers should receive gifts at the end of the school year?
