Teenager dies after single-vehicle collision and two motorcyclists hospitalised in separate incident

The collision occurred shortly after 8pm last night on Barrettstown Road in Newbridge.

A TEENAGER HAS died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Kildare, while two motorcyclists were hospitalised following a separate incident in the same county. 

The fatal collision, involving a pick-up truck, occurred shortly after 8pm last night on the Barrettstown Road in Newbridge.

The passenger, a man in his late teens, was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver, also a man in his teens, was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

There were no other injuries reported.

The road remains closed, pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.   

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 7.45pm and 8.15pm are asked to make this footage available.

Elsewhere, two motorcyclists were hospitalised following a separate incident yesterday evening in Athy, Co Kildare.

The collision, involving a car and two motorcycles, occurred on the R415 at Boley Little, Athy shortly after 7.30pm yesterday.

One of the motorcyclists, a man in his 20s, was brought to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The second motorcyclist, also a man in his 20s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct an examination of the scene and local diversions in place.

Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward and are interested in camera footage, including dash-cam, from anyone who was travelling in the area between 7.15pm and 7.45pm.
