Teenager dies in hospital following serious assault in Co Meath last month

The assault happened on Watergate Street in Navan, Co Meath on Sunday 21 June.

A TEENAGER HAS died in hospital following a serious assault in Co Meath last month.

The assault happened on Watergate Street in Navan, Co Meath on Sunday 21 June at around 1.15am.

A man in his late teens suffered serious injuries during the assault and was taken to Drogheda Hospital and subsequently Beaumont Hospital for treatment.

He was pronounced dead yesterday, Wednesday 15 July.

A post-mortem examination has been completed, the results of which are not being released for operational reasons.

Gardaí continue to investigate the assault and as part of this investigation, a man in his 30s was arrested and detained. 

He was charged and appeared before Navan District Court on 26 June in connection with this assault and is currently remanded to appear before Trim District Court on 28 July.

A garda spokesperson said that as this matter is now before court, An Garda Síochána cannot comment further.
