'The kids' faces light up': Meet the Dubliners who go all-out to decorate their homes for Christmas

These householders go the extra mile to bring a bit of happiness to their areas each winter.

HUGE AMOUNTS ARE spent lighting up the capital’s streets and department stores each December.

But away from the high streets, many ordinary Dubliners also make a huge investment of their time and energy to decorate their own homes and gardens.

William Tilly of Bath Avenue Gardens in Dublin 4 festoons his front garden with a Santa- themed charity display each year. On the other side of the city, Francis and Johnny McGovern of St Brendan’s Crescent in Walkinstown transform their front room into a winter wonderland.

Donations for Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services at Harold’s Cross are being collected at each address.

The McGoverns’ Christmas Village is open to the public this weekend – and they can be contacted for private viewings after that at johnny1mcgovern@gmail.com. As for Mr Tilly’s display – well, it’s unlikely you’ll miss it if you’re passing the area.
