DONALD TRUMP ASKED former FBI Director James Comey to end the bureau’s investigations into his former national security advisor Michael Flynn, according to a new report.
The New York Times cites a memo from Comey which details a meeting he held with the US President in which Trump raised the FBI’s investigations into Flynn’s dealings with Russian officials.
“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Trump told Comey, according to the memo.
He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.
Flynn was forced to step down in February after it emerged that he misled the White House over talks he had held with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak concerning Washington’s sanctions on Moscow.
Trump last week also fired Comey from his role as FBI director.
In response to the New York Times’ story, the White House says the report is “not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey.”

The White House says that while the president has repeatedly expressed his view that Flynn is a “decent man,” he has never asked Comey or anyone else to end any investigations involving him.
