Two people rescued from highest mountain in Wicklow

The mountain rescue team came to the aid of a man and a young girl in separate rescue operations today.

THE DUBLIN AND Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team today came to the aid of a male hill walker who had sustained a leg injury while descending from Lugnaquilla.

The man who, was with two other friends, was descending when the injury occurred. He continued on with the help of his friends but due to the pain of the injury they decided to call Mountain Rescue.

The party of three were located using SARLOC, a computer program used by Mountain Rescue to locate the man using his smartphone.

The man was met by members of the teams who assessed and treated his injury. He was then packaged and winched the Irish Coastguard helicopter, which had been tasked to the incident.

As the teams where finishing with this incident they also engaged in a second rescue in the same area of Lugnaquilla. A young girl had sustained a similar injury. She was assessed and treated for her injuries before being stretched off the mountain to a waiting four wheel drive vehicle.
