TWO TRACTOR DRIVERS have been arrested on the M1 Motorway in Louth for alleged offences contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

Gardaí said they observed a number of articulated tractor units blocking traffic on the northbound side of the motorway after junction 14.

Fuel price protesters have been blocking motorways around the country since last week, including the M1, but most have dispersed following the government’s announcement of cuts to the prices of fuels.

After responding to alleged dangerous driving, “gardaí intervened and the trucks were directed to stop on the hard shoulder of the motorway,” a spokesperson said.

“Following engagement between Gardaí and the drivers of the two lead articulated tractor units, both drivers were arrested for alleged offence contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

The drivers have since been charged and will be brought to Drogheda District Court on Tuesday 14 April 2026, at 10:30am.

Both articulated tractor units were impounded under the Road Traffic Act, the spokesperson said.
