Uber introduces fixed taxi prices in Ireland

Users who request the fixed price will see the maximum price of their trip upfront.

UBER IS INTRODUCING fixed taxi prices in Ireland, providing an alternative to price ranges.

When booking a taxi with Uber (or other operators) a price range of the approximate cost of the journey appears.

The range is typically only a few euro, but based on various factors – such as heavy traffic, or alternative routes taken due to road traffic accidents or road works – the price could end up being higher than the passenger anticipated.

Now when booking a taxi, users will have the option to go with Taxi Fixed Price, which means they will see the maximum guaranteed price upfront. Uber says this will mean “no more guessing, no more meter anxiety”.

“When you request the Taxi Fixed Price Product, you’ll see a clear, simple upfront price,” it added.

If the final price on the meter ends up costing less than the initial price, users will pay the lower price.

The operator warned that changes after the booking – like adding extra stops, changing the destination, or requesting an alternate route – will result in the price changing. These changes can be made in the Uber app to show the new fixed price.

Uber began operating in Ireland in 2014. As of June 2024, it had over 6,000 drivers working with the service.
