UK police arrest man in connection with murder of pregnant teen

The 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the heavily pregnant Nikitta Grender at the weekend.

POLICE IN WALES have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murdering expectant mother Nikitta Grender who was found dead at her home last Saturday.

Gwent Police have confirmed the arrested man is from Newport and that they are continuing to search six premises across the city as part of their investigation.

Grender, 19, was found by firemen who had been called to her burnt-out home in Broadmead Park in the south-east of the city. A post-mortem on Grender, who was eight months pregnant, has revealed that she died from two stab wounds.

The police said on Monday that they were carrying out forensic analysis, conducting door-to-door inquiries, and have been looking at CCTV footage in order to establish what happened. They are continuing to search for the murder weapon, believed to be a knife.

Police say the arrested man is not from the Broadmead Park area, nor the nearby Moorland Park or Pontfaen areas of the city. Officers remain the scene and searches are continuing in and around the estate.

Grender was two weeks away from giving birth when she died and had moved to Newport several months ago to be with her boyfriend.
