Man stabbed to death in Drogheda named as 30-year-old Wayne McQuillan

Gardaí have now launched a murder investigation and a 40-year-old woman is still being held.

THE MAN FATALLY stabbed in Drogheda this morning has been named as 30-year-old Wayne McQuillan from Marian Park in the town.

Following the results of a post mortem carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, this afternoon,  gardaí say they are now launching a murder investigation.

A 40-year-old woman arrested after the stabbing is still being held at Drogheda garda station. She is being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and can be held for up to 24-hours.

The incident occurred in the Rathmullen Park area, Drogheda at approximately 1.45am this morning.

The injured man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
