In today's typical Irish weather : Rain, hail, lightning, thunder, frogs, locusts*

*Ok, the last two aren’t happening…are they?

MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a weather warning for Ireland in the coming days, with hot and very humid conditions, heavy rain, hailstorms, lightning, and even flooding in some areas.

In short – a classic Irish weather forecast featuring every possible meteorological madness condensed into 48 hours.

Don’t be deceived by the glorious sunshine we’re seeing this morning in the east and north of the country.

A “status yellow” alert issued by Met Éireann this morning will remain in place from until Saturday night.

Temperatures may rise as far as 24 degrees today, but this being Ireland in the summer, gusty winds and heavy, thundery downpours will spread from the south tonight, covering almost all of the country.

Friday will see warm and humid conditions, with hazy sunshine and highs of 18 to 22 degrees. But as the day goes on, more heavy rain is due to hit, with a risk of hail and lightning.

Be prepared for a tough night’s sleep on Friday, as conditions will stay sticky, with temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees expected. At night.

Saturday will be hot and muggy with some hazy sunshine and temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees, but – once again – get ready for some heavy rain, hail and lightning which could cause some damage and disruption at times.

Things will freshen up a bit on Sunday, with temperatures in the high-teens or low-20s and some decent sunny spells, but expect some scattered showers in parts of the country.

In summary, this might be the weekend to break out those box-sets you’ve been saving for September.

And you might end up regretting all those life-affirming outdoor activities you had planned.
