A MAN IN his 50s has died after his motorcycle crashed in Co Wexford yesterday.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision near Taghmon in the south of the county yesterday evening at approximately 6:50pm.

The collision occurred on a local road at Poulpeasty. Gardaí said there were no other vehicles involved.

In what has been described as a freak accident, it is believed a pheasant flew across the path of the motorcyclist leading to the crash.

It’s understood that the late man’s son was travelling in his car behind him at the time of the incident.

Emergency services were on the scene shortly after the accident but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

There were no other injuries reported.

The road remains closed this morning to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

They are particularly interested in speaking to those with dash cam footage and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 7pm.
