Woman (60s) dies following two-car collision in Louth

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene on Bellews Bridge Road, Castletown.

A WOMAN IN her sixties has died following a two-car collision in Dundalk, Co Louth shortly after 1:45pm today.

The woman, who was was the driver and sole occupant of one car, was pronounced deceased at the scene on Bellews Bridge Road, Castletown. 

Her body has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem will take place.

The driver and sole occupant of the other car, a woman in her thirties, is being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A technical examination of the scene is being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road remains closed at this time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 1:30pm and 2:00pm this afternoon, Wednesday 15th April 2026 are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.”

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
