Woman in her eighties dies in Westmeath house fire

The woman’s husband has been treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN has died after a fire at a house in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

RTE reports that the alarm was raised at 5.30am at Cartrontroy Heights. An elderly man was removed to hospital where he has been treated for smoke inhalation and is in a stable condition.

Breaking News reports that the man is the dead woman’s husband and that Gardaí are not treating the blaze as suspicious.
